What We Learned at the Phoenix BIM Workshops

On Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, more than BIM professionals from as far as Virginia Beach, VA gathered in Phoenix, AZ for the 2016 Phoenix BIM Workshops. It was a day full of knowledge-sharing, networking, and fun!

Lynn Allen: 2016 Phoenix BIM Workshops

Lynn Allen shares the Future of Making Things with attendees at the 2016 Phoenix BIM Workshops.

Highlights

Attendees had the opportunity to attend a variety of hands-on labs and lecture-based sessions throughout the day. Sessions covered beginner-intermediate Revit workflows, topics related to specific disciplines, emerging technologies in the AEC industry, and more.

In Drones for Construction and Infrastructure, Nick Harper discussed the impact drone technology is having on the survey, infrastructure, and construction industries. Attendees in this session were very excited by the new opportunities that drones are bringing to the AEC industry and learning about how it will be integrated into their businesses in the future.

In Avoiding Collaboration Sand Traps, Robert Bell facilitated a discussion about collaboration in BIM and the challenges that come with it. Attendees appreciated Robert’s expertise in the field and the useful “sand trap” metaphor. Overall, this session allowed attendees to understand that the collaboration challenges they face are very similar to those that other organizations experience.

One of the most exciting new features to appear in Revit in some time is Global Parameters. Paul Aubin demonstrated how Global Parameters can be used in various kinds of projects in the Global Parameters, Global Control! session. Attendees found that Paul’s presentation opened their eyes to features in Revit that they weren’t aware of and should be using in their day-to-day work.
